The successful candidate will join an interdisciplinary team<br>working on subsurface fluid flow modeling and experiments applicable to geologic carbon and<br>energy storage. The student with have the opportunity to conduct experimental research using the<br>state-of-the-art microfluidic system in Dr. Bakhshian\u2019s lab for pore-scale investigation of<br>subsurface multiphase flow.<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This position is open to domestic applicants (U.S. citizens and permanent residents) and to<br>individuals who already hold a valid U.S. visa.<br>Required qualifications:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Master\u2019s degree in Geoscience, Petroleum Eng., Chemical Eng., Mechanical Eng., Civil<br>Eng., or closely related fields.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Solid foundation in fluid mechanics and geochemistry<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Hands-on experience with microfluidics, microfabrication, microscopy, and image analysis<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Strong analytical and problem-solving skills<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Excellent written and verbal communication skills<br>Preferred (but not required) Skills<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Familiarity with reactive transport modeling<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Familiarity with computational tools (e.g., OpenFOAM, COMSOL, or similar)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Experience with programming languages such as Python, C++, etc.<br><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>How to apply:<br>Please submit your application electronically through the graduate program&#8217;s application portal.<br>For more information, refer to the following link:<br>https:\/\/eeps.rice.edu\/graduate\/phd-program<br><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The deadline for Spring 2026 is October 31st, 2025 (10:59 p.m. CST\/11:59 p.m. EST).<br><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>All required application materials must be received for your application to be considered<br>complete.
