This concept will showcase capabilities of an energy island to not only optimally supply its own energy demands and support the grids in normal conditions but also to securely and optimally supply its critical services in critical situations and to support the grids with the black-start power for grid restoration.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The position will, in collaboration with other researchers in the project, focus on developing:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>A measurement and control platform for optimal island operation of Chalmers\u2019 wind-battery system.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Machine learning-based forecasting tools for renewable production using limited local measurement data.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>An adaptable multi-timescale energy management system for energy islands.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Models for ancillary service provision to transmission and distribution system operators (TSOs and DSOs).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Real-time operation and control solutions using grid-forming (GFM) controllers for both grid-connected and islanded operation.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p>The Chalmers wind turbine with battery storage (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.chalmers.se\/en\/departments\/e2\/resources-and-collaboration\/chalmers-wind-turbine\/\">l<\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/www.chalmers.se\/en\/departments\/e2\/resources-and-collaboration\/chalmers-wind-turbine\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">ink)<\/a>&nbsp;will serve as the validation platform for the developed models and systems.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Who we are looking for<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>We are seeking a motivated and skilled researcher with a PhD in Electrical Engineering (e.g., electric power systems, automation, or control) or a related field (e.g., power electronics or machine learning applications in power systems). The PhD degree must have been awarded no more than three years prior to the application deadline*.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The ideal candidate has:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Strong analytical and problem-solving skills,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>A solid academic record, and<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Excellent command of English, both spoken and written.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>It is desirable that applicants have expertise in one or more of the following:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Energy management and control for energy islands,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Electricity and ancillary service markets,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Programming (e.g., Python, GAMS) and power system simulation tools,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Development of measurement and IoT-based data exchange systems.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Experience with real-time control of energy islands using grid-forming controllers is considered a strong advantage.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>*&nbsp;<em>Exceptions to the three-year limit may be granted for documented circumstances such as parental leave, illness, or military service.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>What you will do<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>As a postdoctoral researcher, you will:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Develop your own scientific concepts and contribute to the advancement of the project\u2019s objectives,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Produce high-quality research results, project reports, and scientific publications, and<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Contribute to teaching or other departmental duties, up to a maximum of 10% of your working time.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Contract terms&nbsp;<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The position is the full-time temporary employment and is limited to a period of two years. &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The position requires physical presence throughout the entire employment.
