Your work will include microbiology experiments, genetic engineering, protein purification, and biochemical analyses, as well as optimizing growth on waste biomass and conducting large-scale fermentations. You will be part of an interdisciplinary team at Chalmers and collaborate regularly with industry experts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Who we are looking for<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><em><strong>The following requirements are mandatory:<\/strong><\/em><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>To qualify as a Doctoral student, you must have a Master&#8217;s degree (<em>masterexamen<\/em>) of 120 credits or a Master\u2019s degree (<em>magisterexamen<\/em>) of 60 credits* in biotechnology.\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Hands-on experience with bacterial cultivation and genetic engineering.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Experience with sustainable extraction of biomass.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>>1 year of microbiology laboratory work experience.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Ability to work as a part of an interdisciplinary team.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Ability to plan and execute scientific studies from conception to implementation, including paper writing.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>You will need strong written and verbal communication skills in English.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>*<em>for students with an education earned outside of Sweden, a 4-year Bachelor\u2019s degree is accepted.<\/em>&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><em>The following experience will strengthen your application:&nbsp;<\/em><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Experience with AI-based synthetic biology.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>What you will do<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Develop your own scientific concepts and communicate the results of your research verbally and in writing<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Microbiology assays and genetic engineering<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Protein purification and biochemical assays<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Optimization of growth on waste biomass and large scale fermentation<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The position generally also includes teaching on Chalmers&#8217; undergraduate level or performing other duties corresponding to 20 percent of working hours\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Contract terms&nbsp;<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The Doctoral student positions are fully funded from start.\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The position is a fixed-term appointment of four years, with the possibility to teach up to 20%, which extends the position up to five years.\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>A starting salary of 34,550 SEK per month (valid from May 25, 2025).\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Doctoral studies require physical presence throughout the entire study period.
