I’m recruiting exceptional PhD students to join the Machine Intelligence and Human–Robot Interaction Laboratory (MItHRIL) at Queen’s University, based at the Ingenuity Labs Research Institute. These are fully funded PhD positions expected to start May or September 2026, aligned with two major research directions:
Expressive & Performative Robotics
This project (supported by Connected Minds) blends robotics, neuroscience, and live performance to explore expressive movement, shared agency, and artistic human–robot interaction.
Intelligent Assistive Robotics for Healthy Aging (CaRollator)
This work focuses on an intelligent robotic rollator deployed with older adults, clinicians, and caregivers to support mobility, balance, and fall-risk assessment.
Who should apply?
Candidates from robotics, ECE, CS, HRI, mechatronics, rehab/biomedical engineering — especially those excited by human-centred, embodied, and interdisciplinary robotics. Curiosity and initiative matter more than checking every box.
Deadline: February 28, 2026
Start: May 2026

We strongly encourage applications from equity-seeking groups. Different perspectives build better robots.
