Subject description
The area of service is advanced characterization and modeling of ecologically, socially and economically sustainable metallic materials, especially steel for improved structural integrity.
Job duties
The position includes research and teaching as well as related administration. The research will initially be carried out within the framework of a fellow position within the WISE program, which involves the development of a comprehensive research activity. The teaching position is intended to take place at both undergraduate and graduate levels, as well as within doctoral education.
The assistant lecturer will be given the opportunity to develop his/her independence as a researcher and gain qualifications that can provide eligibility for another teaching position for which higher eligibility requirements are set (see Chapter 4, Section 12 a, Higher Education Ordinance). The assistant lecturer may apply for promotion to lecturer in accordance with Chapter 4, Section 12 c, Higher Education Ordinance.
Competence
Eligible for employment as an assistant lecturer are those who have completed a doctoral degree or have equivalent scientific competence. Those who have completed a doctoral degree or have achieved equivalent competence no more than seven years before the application period for employment as an assistant lecturer has expired should be considered. However, those who have completed a doctoral degree or have achieved equivalent competence earlier may also be considered if there are special reasons. Special reasons refer to leave due to illness, parental leave or other similar circumstances.
Assessment criteria
The assessment criteria for employment as an assistant lecturer at KTH are the assessment criteria stated in section 1.3 of KTH’s employment regulations in relation to the established employment profile.
It is of utmost importance that the applicant has demonstrated
- scientific proficiency demonstrated through scientific publication, conference participation, participation in research collaborations and other commitments in the scientific community such as review or expert assignments.
- potential for qualification for higher teaching positions. This includes potential for independent development as a researcher and teacher within the relevant subject area as well as the ability to establish, renew and develop the relevant research area.
It is of second highest importance that the applicant has demonstrated
- Experience of a postdoctoral stay in a research environment other than the university where the applicant received his/her doctorate. Experience from research and development work in industry or other organizations can be considered equivalent to a traditional postdoctoral stay at another university.
- interest in and insights regarding pedagogical development within the relevant subject area.
- interest in and insights regarding leadership in academia, collaboration with the surrounding community, and awareness of diversity and equal treatment issues with a particular focus on gender equality.
It is also important that the applicant has demonstrated
- administrative skill .
Special assessment criteria for promotion to associate professor
When considering an application for promotion to associate professor, provisions according to 1.2.4 of KTH’s Employment Regulations will be applied. The ability to teach in Swedish is a merit that is given great importance when applying for promotion.
