The ASSET Group, University of British Columbia at UBC Okanagan is looking for a superstar — or a rising one — to join a team that’s redefining how we design and build safe, affordable, and sustainable concrete buildings.
Our work blends full-scale experimental testing, advanced nonlinear analysis, and close collaboration with industry. We work directly on technologies and systems that shape building codes, drive innovation in prefabricated concrete construction, and create new opportunities for commercialization and impact across Canada and beyond.
You’ll focus on nonlinear analysis and testing of precast concrete systems, with the flexibility to tailor your research toward sustainability, affordable housing, or computational modeling depending on your background and interests.
Preferred background:
• Background in structural, earthquake, or concrete design
• Programming ability (Python, MATLAB, or similar)
• Strong academic background
• Experience in nonlinear structural analysis (OpenSees experience is a strong asset) – PhD applicants only
This position offers the chance to do technically demanding, meaningful research in an environment that values innovation, collaboration, and translation to practice. You will also be able to travel the world, sharing your research at conferences and workshops.
Location: UBC Okanagan is in a region known for its natural beauty. It is perfect for someone who wants to live and work in a place that balances world-class research with a love for the outdoors.
If you’re the kind of engineer who wants to use research to change the world, through better buildings, smarter systems, and meaningful impact, we want to hear from you, even if you don’t tick every box.
